Over the past decade, Abdul Foster has built a reputation as a premier personal trainer for some of Houston’s top athletes. Now, he’s looking to channel that influence into the technology sector with his own startup, TRAINR.

Co-founded in 2022, TRAINR. blends Foster’s extensive experience in personal training with the burgeoning market for software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions. This innovative approach has already caught the attention of industry leaders, earning Trainr a coveted spot in DivInc’s Spring 2024 Sports Tech Accelerator as the sole Houston-based startup to make the cut.

Foster’s journey into tech was inspired by the success of his first training client, his brother, former NFL star Arian Foster. Leveraging the lessons learned from training top athletes, including James Harden and Clint Capela, Abdul recognized the systemic issues personal trainers face, such as inefficient scheduling and low income. TRAINR. aims to address these challenges by providing tools for managing lessons, billing, and community building. Foster is also advocating for greater investment from Houston’s sports community into local tech startups, noting a knowledge gap that he believes can be bridged. With Houston’s rich sports culture and the global surge in sports tech investments, Foster is poised to make significant strides in both the fitness and technology landscapes.
